Ramiro Arana is known for being a bright, bubbly individual with a contagious laugh. Arana grew up in Pantanal and was drawn to GOCARE for their English language program. He later applied for a university scholarship and is now in his first year studying architecture and learning how to draw. He also mentors and teaches English at the GOCARE facility so that other students have the opportunity to learn English.
Youth with the GOCARE Theatre Program are currently rehearsing for “The Musicians of Bremen,” the story of a donkey, dog, cat and rooster who are all past their prime years and usefulness on their respective farms. All of the animals decide to leave their homes together and set out on a journey to Bremen to discover freedom, live without owners and become musicians. The
Earlier this month, GOCARE received a special visit from their friends at the Ciudad Sandino Rotary Club. The club had the opportunity to walk around the community of Pantanal and stop by the Lindsay Community Center to say hello to some of the families that are benefiting from the Eco stove Project. A total of 88 youth participated in this year’s Youth Leadership Academy. The academy was held July 26 – 28. Activities included presentations from local Rotary Clubs, song and dance groups, and crafts. Each year, GOCARE takes more than 80 youth to participate in the annual Youth Leadership Academy, a special training camp in Nicaragua to teach young people essential leadership skills for success.
