Mentoring and Tutoring
We have implemented a mentoring and tutoring program for at risk primary students from the El Pantanal community. This program will also be offered in our other Learning centers. GOCARE’S university students work with the public primary schools in the area and identify and offer contracts to candidates that would benefit from additional help to meet education requirements. In return for uniforms, shoes, supplies and academic assistance, the at risk students agree to attend the community Learning Center five afternoons a week to work with the mentoring university students.
The community Learning Center is also open for after school tutoring sessions on weekdays where students are required to come and work with the GOCARE mentors to study. The “Come Back to Give Back” program is key to the success of the after school program. Mentors like Bernardo inspire local youth to love to learn and to challenge them to learn more.
